Format, mostly. TEF runs about 2 hours, mixes multiple-choice with open-ended questions, and reports your result directly on the CEFR scale (A1–C2). TCF runs closer to 3 hours, is almost entirely multiple-choice, and scores you on a 0–699 scale that then converts to CEFR. Both convert to CLB/NCLC for immigration purposes, so neither is “better” for your application — it comes down to which format plays to your strengths.
Up to 50. Score NCLC 7 or higher on all four skills — listening, reading, writing, speaking — and you get 25 points on their own. Add CLB 5 or higher on all four English skills and that rises to 50, the maximum bonus IRCC awards for a second official language.
It depends what you're optimizing for. NCLC 7 on every skill is the line that unlocks the CRS bonus points above; some category-based draws and provincial programs set their own thresholds, sometimes lower.
